These Wiki pages detail some useful basic knowledge for installing and using Contiki 2.3, the latest available version to date. Far from comprehensive, their main intent is to help in installing Contiki, and to provide newbies with an overview of this interesting OS. The TMote Sky platform is used for illustrating the capabilities of the OS. Parts of the provided content may however be of interest for any user of the OS.
Contiki is an operating system designed for microcontrollers with small amounts of memory. Its development was motivated by the design of the smallest WEB browser (cf. [1]), and the first release came out in March 2003. Since then, many more features have been added thanks to an ever-growing community. Its design is now led by a group a developers from industry and academia led by Adam Dunkels, the creator of the Coniki OS, from the Swedish Institute of Computer Science (cf. [2]).
