The Computational Modeling Lab (CoMo) is one of the research labs at the department of computer science in the faculty of sciences at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel.

CoMo is headed by Prof. Dr. Ann Nowé and Prof. Dr. Bernard Manderick. We are active in several research areas, such as multi-agent reinforcement learning, data mining and bioinformatics. We apply machine learning techniques in a wide range of application domains like telecom, medicine, supply chain management, etc.

For a more detailed list of our research activities, visit our research page.

For students: Master Thesis proposals for 2011-2012 can be found under our teaching page.

Activities & Projects

CoMo is co-organizing the Adaptive and Learning Agents Workshop (ALA2012), held at the AAMAS conference in Valencia, Spain, in June 2012.

Information on CoMo robotics projects can now be found at the CoMo Robotics Wiki.

CoMo coordinates the FWO scientific network machine learning for data mining and its applications

CoMo is part of the inSilico project, an inter-university consortium sponsored by the IRSIB.

CoMo is a partner in the DiCoMAS project - ”Distributed Collaboration using Multi-agent System Architectures”, an inter-university project funded by IWT.

CoMo is also involved in the IWT SBO project LeCoPro - ”Learning Control for Production Machines”, a joint initiative with other Flemish research groups, where we apply multi-agent learning to distributed industrial control systems.

Past Events

CoMo co-hosted a lecture by visiting researcher Dr. Anna Förster, entitled ”Machine Learning Techniques for Communication in Wireless Sensor Networks”.

CoMo co-organized the ALA 2011 workshop and the MARL 2011 tutorial, held at the AAMAS conference in Taipei, Taiwan, in May 2011.

Prof. Dr. Philippe De Wilde received the Vloeberghs Chair 2009-2010. He gave six lectures on decision making under uncertainty during February and March 2010.

CoMo hosted the DiCoMas seminar on Friday, 27 November 2009, entitled ”New approaches to planning and scheduling”. Click here to see the agenda.

CoMo gave a tutorial at EWRL 2008.
